FARRINGTON (Crosby), Margaret Helen passed away peacefully on December 5th, 2015 at Garden Terrace in Ottawa. Born 2 March 1921 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, to parents Harold E Crosby and Maude (Verrall). Margaret is survived by her sister, Dorothy, living in Yarmouth, and was pre-deceased by her brother Norman, also of Yarmouth. After graduating from the Yarmouth Academy, Margaret worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. During World War Two, Yarmouth Airport was the site of a large British Commonwealth Air Training Plan base which was comprised of East and West Camps. The YMCA and local churches, and the townspeople, organized social events for the trainees from the base. It was through her volunteer work at these social activities that Margaret met her future husband, from England, Lawrence Farrington. During 1942-43 he was based at East Camp training to be a Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Telegraphist Air Gunner (TAG). He then spent the remaining war years in various flying duties around the British Isles. After the war he completed his degree at Oxford and then returned to Yarmouth, where he and Margaret were married at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in 1950. He had joined the Royal Canadian Navy just prior to the wedding. Lawrence had a long career in the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Forces and Margaret assumed the role of military wife and mother. In the early years this entailed frequent moves (postings in Cornwallis, NS, Victoria, BC, London, England, Toronto, ON (twice), Ottawa, ON (twice) and Hamilton, ON) including some very long periods ashore alone with two young children when Laurie was at sea. Margaret is survived by both her sons David and Michael - both settled in Ottawa. Margaret also has two grandchildren by Michael's wife Sandra: Spencer and Carly. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Coulthard in Sydney, Australia. Margaret will be greatly missed by many life-long friends, by her nieces and nephews across Canada and in Australia, and especially by her sons and grandchildren. May she rest in peace. In the spring there will be a small graveside service at Chebogue Cemetery near Yarmouth Nova Scotia open to all local friends and family. An announcement with the details will be made closer to the date.
