Vaughan MacDonald

Vaughan MacDonald of Lady Cove, Random Island, passed peacefully away at the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville, on Dec. 7, 2015 at the age of 88 after a short illness. Vaughan leaves to mourn his loving wife of 61 years, Lorna (nee Strong), adored children, Scott (Denice), and Trent, daughter Elizabeth, grandson Nicholas (Leanne), and great-grandson Kade. Also left to mourn are his sister-in-law Joan Duffitt, brother-in-law Angus (Winnie) Strong, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Vaughan was born July 5, 1927 in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. He grew up in St. John’s and graduated as a registered pharmacist. He worked for Glaxo Canada in pharmaceutical sales and traveled all over the province with his work, which he enjoyed. Vaughan was active in many sports in his youth in St. John’s and was known for playing left field with the Guards, and was inducted into the St. John’s and Newfoundland Baseball’s Hall of Fame. He was involved with the Boy Scouts of Canada most his life and was the Newfoundland Commissioner for a number of years. He was a participant in numerous Scouting Jamborees and thoroughly enjoyed volunteering and helping others. Vaughan loved life and gave of himself wherever he could. He was known to enjoy social gatherings of any kind as his many friends can attest. His funeral service, officiated by Rev. Donna Hann, was held at Lady Cove United Church at 2 pm, Thursday, Dec. 10. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the charity of your choice. Vaughan’s passing will leave a hole in many hearts. He was much loved and will be greatly missed.
