Born in Glace Bay Nov. 25, 1948, he was a son of the late Bernice (Gregor) and George A. MacLean.
Tom was predeceased by his brother David on Dec. 9, 2015.
Tom is survived by his sister, Eileen MacKinnon (Martin), Halifax; sister-in-law, Hinda (Columbus) MacLean, Antigonish and nephew, Shaun MacLean (Dorothy Beaton), Riverview, N.B.
Tom spent part of his early childhood living in Glace Bay and Stellarton before settling in New Waterford where he made his home. Tom followed in his father's footsteps to become an underground Mine Surveyor at Lingan Colliery from 1967-2000; the later years of which were with Phalen Mine Safety.
Tom participated in various activities at Calvin United Church including the Men’s Club, and providing support to the Calvin UCW.
Tom was a quiet and thoughtful fellow known for his generosity and dry sense of humour, often being described as a “true gentleman”. He had varied interests which included reading, music, woodworking, wine appreciation and winemaking, and collecting historical memorabilia. In all these activities, Tom displayed a thorough knowledge and keen sense for detail. In particular, Tom enjoyed walking and often would be seen around New Waterford and Dominion Beach with his faithful companion, Morgan the Sheltie.
