Everett, Hiram "Leigh", 76, of Digby, passed away peacefully at Digby General Hospital on December 12, 2015, surrounded by family and friends. Born March 19, 1939 at Victoria Beach, he was a son of the late Hiram Leigh and Goldie Alberta (Everett) Everett. Following employment at Wallis Print Ltd. (The Digby Courier) and Cameron's Florists, he followed his passion for music and began a career as manager of radio station CKDY in Digby. In 1970, with assistance from fellow broadcasters and community members, he organized the Digby Christmas Daddies Fund Committee whose annual radio/TV show over the last 46 years generated funds to assist families in need at Christmas time. Leigh was a former member of the Digby District Scouts Council, Digby Housing Authority and Digby Board of Trade and was an honorary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 20, Digby. Leigh was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, genealogy and the company of friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Bullock-Harlow) Everett and sons, Jonathan Leigh (1972) and Nathaniel David (1975) Everett of Digby; sisters, Ilda (Lawrence) Taylor, Bertha Titus of Victoria Beach, and Juanita (Otis) Sproule, Delaps Cove; brother, Joseph (Fay) Everett, Victoria Beach, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother, Wylie Everett; nephews, Mark Taylor, Michael Sproule and niece, Andrea Sproule. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. at Jayne's Funeral Home in Digby also where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on December 18, 2015. Family funeral service will follow at Victoria Beach United Baptist Church with committal in Garden of Peace Cemetery in Victoria Beach. Donations in memory may be made to: Heart & Stroke Foundation; Canadian Diabetes Association; Garden of Peace Cemetery, Victoria Beach; Digby Christmas Daddies or charity of choice.
