Earl Betthel

Earl Betthel

Earl Sil Betthel was born on July 2, 1940 on the family farm near Bjorkdale, SK. He passed away on December 13, 2015, in Swift Current, SK. In 1970 he married Patricia Arnold and together they raised their three children, Trudy, Trevor and Travis. They lived in Bjorkdale until 1982 when they moved to Herbert, where he put down deep roots. He lived there until his passing. Earl was immensely proud of his children and supported and encouraged them in their pursuits. In 2004 his life changed as he became “Papa Earl” to his first grandson, Carter. He was thrilled when grandson Zachary (2007), granddaughter Aiden (2007), and grandson Tom (2009) were born. Family was all important. He loved to have the grandchildren visit and to be part of their lives. Earl loved spoiling his grandchildren! Since Pat retired in 2010, they were able to realize their dream of travelling to Canada’s Northern Territories with a trip to Yellowknife in 2010 and to Whitehorse in 2012. Earl spent many years working for ESSO in the Northwest Territories. He worked in many areas along the Arctic Ocean working with the oil industry. He especially enjoyed seeing the Mackenzie River as he had spent one entire summer working on the barges moving supplies down the river to Inuvik. Earl passed away peacefully with his entire family at his side. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Pat; daughter Trudy (Joost) Coucill; son Trevor; son Travis (Kelly); grandchildren Carter Betthel, Zach Coucill, Aiden Betthel and Tom Coucill. A service was held in his honour at Herbert, on December 18, 2015. Memorial donations in Earl’s memory may be made to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan, 1231 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5 or the Canadian Celiac Association, 5025 Orbiter Drive, Building 1, Suite 400, Mississauga, ON L4W 4Y5.
