Gloria Edith  Melanson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Edith Melanson (Reid). Gloria slipped away peacefully at the young age of 73 on December 12, 2015 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born in Joggins, Nova Scotia on August 21, 1942, Gloria attended River Hebert High School and spent most of her life in Joggins. A military wife, Gloria traveled with and supported her husband as they moved across Canada to various bases. Gloria assisted her father in running the Joggins Fossil Centre, a hobby and labour of love that she shared with much of her family. She enjoyed photography, baking and walking the beaches to hunt for fossils and other beach treasures with her family and friends. Gloria was a member of the Joggins Ladies Auxiliary Volunteer Fire Department.
Gloria will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
It is comforting to know that she is reunited with her beloved mother Eleanor Reid and her twins Mary and Joseph Melanson. Gloria is survived by her husband Ovila Melanson, Joggins; her children Donna Melanson (Demont) of Parrsboro, NS and Dale Melanson of Quebec; her grandchildren Katelyn Melanson of Amherst, NS, Nathan Melanson, of Titusville, NB, Aisha Caris and Jade Swaine of Quebec; her great granddaughter Willow Lillian Kay; her father Donald Reid of Joggins, NS; two sisters Donna Swim (Reid) of Halifax, NS and Diana Reid (John Pilon) of Kingston, ON; her four brothers Leonard (Darlene), John (Barb), Doug (Rose), all of Maccan, NS, Donald Jr. (Lynn) of Lyons Brook, NS; and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St, Amherst, NS (902-667-8777) where visiting hours will take place on Wednesday from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral service for Gloria Melanson will be held at the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 2 pm, Rev. Glenn Easson officiating. Burial will take place in the River Hebert Cemetery.
Those wishing to make a donation in Gloria's memory may do so to the Liver Foundation, the Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
