Douglas MacLeod

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas A. MacLeod, 79, of Oxford, on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Palliative Care, Amherst.
Born June 6, 1936 in Port Elgin, NB, he was the eldest son of the late Alfred A. and Eva M. (Read) MacLeod.
Doug worked in the construction industry all his life, ending the last twenty years with Casey Concrete in Amherst until his retirement in 1996.
Doug enjoyed the outdoors, snowmobiling and four-wheeling, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed his time at the camp, as well as a good conversation and time spent with his family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-one years, Verna M (Thompson) MacLeod, Oxford; his brothers, R. Gary (Betty) MacLeod, Bridgewater, NS and Reginald D. (Jennifer) MacLeod, Middle Sackville, NS; brothers-in-law, Douglas W. (Carol) Thompson, Charles (Glad) Thompson, and Henry I. (Debbie) Thompson, all of Oxford; nephews, Sean (Sarah) MacLeod, Bridgewater, Galen MacLeod, Halifax, David MacLeod, New Zealand, Kent (Cindy) Thompson, Chris and Stephen Thompson, Oxford and Coltan Thompson, Halifax; Nieces, Beth Macleod, Bridgewater, Tania Thompson (Kendall Mills), Erin (Michael) Emmerson, Lindsay Thompson, Oxford, and Jenna (Dan) Gould, Amherst.Arrangements are under the care and guidance of W. Allen Funeral Home, 60 Water Street, Oxford (902-447-2167) from where a time of visitation will be held from 7-9 pm on Thursday, December 17, 2015 and on Friday, December 18 from 12 pm until the time of the funeral at 2 pm. Rev. J. Tonks officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at the Palliative Care of the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for their compassion and support.
Donations in memory of Doug may be made to the St. James Presbyterian Church, Oxford, the L.A. Animal Shelter, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of the Donor’s Choice.
