Sullivan, Joseph Raymond
Born May 24, 1929, died December 11, 2015. Parents Mary (Roach) and Daniel Sullivan he was the 12th of 13 children, William, Anthony, Arthur, Gerald, Annie, Leonard, David, Helen, Betty, Paul, Alice, Joe, Danny who died at 4 1/2 years. Joe leaves behind children Carolyn, Michael, Christopher, and Thomas as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He grew up on the family farm in Kouchibouguac, N.B and left to go to work for the CNR as a telegraph operator at the age of 19 working throughout N.B. and N.S. In 1948 he was promoted to train dispatcher working in that position and as a chief dispatcher until leaving in 1979. He married Joan Brown in 1953.
Joe worked for CN for 30 years. During the last years with the railway he acquired rental housing and went on to build a number of apartments and houses. His real estate portfolio got so big he quit CN to concentrate full time on developing, mostly apartment buildings.
He moved to Kelowna in 1991 where he continued to build houses as well as continuing to travel the world, too many countries to mention. Jackie Ross was his partner for many enjoyable years of travel and time in Kelowna.
Eventually he left real estate in Kelowna spending six months of the year in Kelowna and six months in Mexico. During these years his faithful companion was a beautiful border collie/golden retriever cross named Roxy.
Joe had a fall in his home in Cabo San Lucas in 2014 resulting in being hospitalized in Mexico then returning to Kelowna General Hospital/Cottonwoods followed by a move to Lynn Valley Care Centre in North Vancouver. There will be a Celebration of Life in Kelowna is the spring.
