Passed in: Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: December 21st, 2015

SURETTE, Gary Joseph – age 53, of Overton, Yarmouth County, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015. An avid hockey fan, Gary was a minor hockey coach in Yarmouth throughout the 1990’s with Brian (Sumo) Comeau. The Boston Bruins was his favorite team, and Bobby Orr the greatest player. It was the ultimate thrill for Gary to have spoken with him on his birthday, thanks to his very dear friend, Shelley. Gary loved to laugh, and was known by many of his friends as a bit of a prankster. Kind-hearted, loving, devoted were also words used to describe Gary’s gentle nature. He loved going on road trips on his motorcycle with Scott and the gang. He was also known as Mr. Fix-it by his family, tinkering with anything that was broken; if there were parts left over after he was done, well you didn’t really need them anyway. Gary and his spouse, Denice Corporon, have been together for 33 years. He was the son of Ralph and the late Mary (Campbell) Surette of Sluice Point. Beside his mother, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Douglas and Pearl (Anthony) Campbell; paternal grandparents, Ambrose and Jeannette (Burke) Surette; father-in-law, Edmund Corporon. Surviving are his siblings Paul (Alayne), Halifax; Marilyn (Gregory Nestor), Pembroke; Lisa, Sluice Point; Kevin, Mississauga, ON; Dana (Drew Johnston), Annapolis Royal; Amber (Evan Jacquard), Sluice Point; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were under the direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visitation took place from 7 to 9 on Wednesday, with the funeral mass on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Family church in Amirault’s Hill, Rev. Maurice LeBlanc officiated. Cremation followed the ceremony, with interment at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Gilles Boudreau & Friends Cancer Help Fund or to the Lodge That Gives in Halifax. Thank you to the Yarmouth Regional Health Centre 3rd floor nursing staff. A very special thank you to his good friend, Jonathan LeBlanc, especially for all he has done for Gary these past few months – he’ll never know how much it is appreciated.
