At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on December 25, 2015, Doris Eloise Stewart of Blacks Harbour, NB. Born at Elmcroft, NB on July 5, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Estella (Beney) Stewart.
A loving sister, aunt and friend, Doris is survived by one brother: Alvin (Rena) Stewart of Blacks Harbour, NB; sisters-in-law: Shirley Stewart of Pennfield, NB and Freda Stewart of Blacks Harbour; special nephew: Brandon Stewart; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
She was predeceased by brothers: Clarence, Lawrence, Kenneth and Merlin; sisters: Annie and Florence; and her special friend: Allie.
Prior to retirement, Doris devoted her life to serve her community. She was the longest employee of Region 2 having started work at the age of 16 at the old hospital in Blacks Harbour and finished her career as Supervisor of the Laundry Department of the Fundy Health Center. Doris served as a Volunteer Ambulance Driver for 37 years and because of her caring devotion The Doris Stewart Award was presented to her and to many other volunteers. She was an animal lover who always had a dog or cat and was known to enjoy a shopping trip or two. One thing her family will never forget was the numerous dinners she would put on for them, which would be salt fish dinners or corned beef and cabbage. She loved and took great pleasure in doing this for her family and friends. Doris had two favourite times of year, the Labour Day Weekend Fair in Blacks Harbour and of course, Christmas. As she knew when these events were happening, she would have a house full of family and friends and she loved nothing more than to open her door and be surrounded by the people she loved. Her caring, giving soul has been an important factor in our community and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
