Heffernan, David James – 66, Brookfield/New Waterford passed away on December 26th, 2015 with his children at his side in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. He was a son of the late Harold and Annie (McCharles) Heffernan. Dave was gifted in many ways and enjoyed fishing, cooking, woodworking and gardening. His true passion was teaching. He will be fondly remembered for his dedication, his punny humour and his love of giving and receiving hugs. He showed courage and optimism when faced with obstacles in his life.
He is survived by his brother, John (Shirley) of London, ON; brother-in-law William Chiasson of Dartmouth; son, Andrew (Laura) of Albany, NY; daughters, Annette of Mississauga, ON; and Amy (Jason) Muis, Sheet Harbour; grandchildren, Lucy and Reece Muis; and companion Cindy Lynds. He was predeceased by brother, William; sisters, Annette (Nippy) Chiasson and Elizabeth (Ibby) Nelson.
Dave fought cancer for 17 years and was always grateful for the time he was given with family and friends. He was even more grateful for the kind gestures and assistance that his friends and community extended to him throughout the years.
Visitation for David will be held from 1-2 p.m. on December 31st, 2015 with a service to follow at 2 p.m. all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, N.S. with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
