Mary Margaret (McDevitt) Guinan

GUINAN, Mary Margaret (McDevitt), 91, Brunswick Street, Truro. It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of our mother who died peacefully at home on December 30, 2015. Born in Yarmouth on August 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Charles Dominic and Dorothy Isabel (Morrell) McDevitt. She came to Truro in February 1948 and had a 25-year career with Maritime Tel & Tel in various positions including chief operator. Shortly after her arrival she met and married her husband with whom she raised six children. She was a gentle, sweet-spirited woman yet fiercely independent despite her infirmities. Mary's creative outlets were important to her throughout her life. She appreciated nature, was easy-going, kind, and non-judgmental. Her captivating smile endeared her to everyone. She is survived by William (Valerie) Calgary, AB; David (Janice) Bible Hill; John (Katherine) Truro; Sandra (Robert Donaldson) Truro; Dorothy (Larry deLottinville) St. Augustin, PQ; brother John (Carol) McDevitt, Barrie, ON; sister Catherine (Cassie) McDevitt, Yarmouth; grandchildren William, Vincent, Alexandria, John, Sophia of Calgary, Tomas, Alan, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Cassie, Christopher, Jillian of Truro, Tara, Nicolas of St. Augustin and great-grandson Elijah of Truro; nieces Susan Mayers, Bronwen, Glynis and Jeannie McGarva; nephews Tom and Michael Guinan. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Thomas, daughter Anne, brother Lawrence and sister Lillian. A very special thanks to Carol Brown, Esther Langille, and Yvonne Morris whose love and support enabled Mum to fulfill her wish of staying at home. Words cannot express our gratitude to these fine ladies. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 4th from 6-8 p.m., in Our Lady's Chapel of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 5th at 11 a.m. in the Church with Father Jim O'Connor officiating. Reception to follow in Campbell Hall. Interment will take place at a later date in Robie Street Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Colchester East Hants Palliative Care, VON Truro, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
