COOK, William (Bill) Charles – age 94, of Raynardton, Yarmouth County passed away January 2nd, 2016 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Yarmouth County, N.S. on March 11, 1921, he was the son of the late David Sullivan Cook and Daisy (Arvilla) Andrews. William was a Lance Corporal during WWII where he was very proud to have served as a Gunner/Radio Operator for the Fort Garry Horse Tank Regiment. He was part of the 1st wave of the Juno Beach invasion and took part in the European Campaign which followed. After surviving many major battles they entered Bremen, Germany on VE day and took part in the disarmament. After the war William was employed with Nova Scotia Power for 31 years where he worked as an operator at the Tusket Falls Hydro Generating Station. William was a founding member of the Lake Vaughn Volunteer Fire Department and former member of the Carleton Legion Branch #167. In his spare time he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and enjoyed many hours in his vegetable garden. He is survived by his daughters; Carol Raynard of Raynardton, Susan Cook (Michael Colquhoun) Port Maitland, Judith (Albert) Poole, Sand Beach, Barbara Cook, Raynardton and son, John (Jacqueline) Cook, Raynardton as well as 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, William was predeceased by his first wife Elsie (Bullerwell) and second wife Ardis (Hamilton); son-in-law Donald Raynard. His family would like to thank Continuing Care, V.O.N., Dr. Riley and Dr’s and staff of the 4th floor for all the care and kindness given to Dad. A very special thank you to Dad’s long term caregiver and friend, Debra Magennis, for always brightening his day and keeping him singing to the very end. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Upon family request there was no funeral service and a private family service will occur at a later date. Donations in William’s memory may be made to the Lake Vaughn Volunteer Fire Department, Natures Conservatory or charity of your choice. Association.
