It is with heavy hearts that we the family advise of the passing of Mary Langlois, 75, on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late Mary and Leo Petruskavich.
Mary retired after 40 years service at Scotiabank and attended the Scotiabankers Retirees Luncheons. She was a former Girl Guide leader, 25-year member of St. Augustine CWL and a member of the Grand Lake Road Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was a cancer survivor and also battled Parkinson’s disease for the last 20 years.
Mary was president of the CB Parkinson’s Support Group for many years which helped many other families coping with this illness and was honored as CTV Maritimer of the week for her efforts. Mary will be greatly missed by family and friends especially by her Pokeno club members Margie, Diane, Cathy, Debbie, Rose, Charmaine, Lorraine and Mary (Grammy). She also enjoyed darts and blind 45s at Club 55. Mary loved family gatherings, was always the life of the party and could always make everyone laugh.
Mary is survived by Alex, her loving husband of 53 years, who was also her caregiver; her sons, Tony (Melissa), Howie Center; Eric (Tammy), Kingston, Ont., and her daughter Valerie (Scott) MacLean, Waterford, Ont. and her four grandchildren of whom she was very proud, Camdon Langlois, (Howie Center); Jessica Langlois (Thetford, England) and Corey and Devon MacLean (Waterford, Ont.). Also surviving are sisters, Stephna Leblanc, Florida; Polly (Dave) Gabereau, Ontario; brothers Mike, Sydney and Frank (Marie) Winnipeg, sisters in law: Ruth Petruskavich, Rose (Tom) Cole, Charmaine (Leonard) Chiasson, Lorraine (Billy) McMullin, Debbie (Billy) Levangie, Rose Langlois, Vickie Langlois and Cathy (Aubrey) Farrow and brothers-in-law, David (Marilyn) Langlois, Willie (Colleen) Langlois as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers, Peter, Stan, Joe (Capo) and his wife Ashie, nephew Leo Leblanc, sister-in-law Mary Petruskavich and brothers-in-law, Wayne and Simon Langlois, Jackie McPherson and sister-in-law Carol McPherson.
Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on 755 George St., Sydney on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Celebration of Mary’s life will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Whitney Avenue on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 at 11 a.m., with Father Dennis Lamey presiding.
The family would like to thank the staff of the CCU/ICU and 4D at the CB Regional Hospital and all caregivers. You are a true blessing from God!
