Jeanette (MacLean) Langler, 96, Halifax, NS
Jeanette Langler (lovingly known as JJ by her grandchildren and Nanny JJ by her great grandchildren) passed away peacefully on December 31, 2015 at Northwood at the Harbour, Halifax.
She was born in Eureka, Pictou County, NS to James Harlan MacLean (born in Hopewell, NS) and Frances (MacMillan) MacLean (born in Churchville, NS).
She had two brothers, Ralph and Wallace, who moved to the US in their teens.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, two husbands (Scott Jardine and Dr. Richard Langler), two nieces and a nephew.
Jeanette leaves behind a son (Warren Jardine) and daughter-in-law (Helen Dicks), two daughters (Pat Jardine and Pamela McWhinnie) and a son-in-law (Eric McWhinnie), three grandchildren (Kurt and Krista Hennigar and Michael McWhinnie), three great-grandchildren (Darnell and Moira Hennigar and Kira Lewis), one great-great grandson (Jayden Hennigar), a niece (Nauldine Dower), and several grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and cousins both in Canada and the United States.
Jeanette lived in Halifax, Fredericton, Toronto, Palm Bay, FL, Moncton and Riverview, NB and then returned to Halifax. She enjoyed working as a nurse, lab technician, medical records librarian, clinic manager of the Dalhousie Family Medical Centre, assistant to a pathologist, and at Sears. She had a small catering company which she operated with a friend. They also rented a home where they offered room and board after hearing that international students were having a hard time finding housing in Halifax. Jeanette was a very private person with a kind heart. For many years she got family members involved in helping needy families at Christmas by anonymously contributing turkey dinners and a variety of Christmas gifts.
Jeanette’s three children and their families sincerely thank those who made a positive difference in her life. A huge thank you to the staff at Northwood Centre. No words could express how much the family appreciates all their hard work, patience, and compassion. Special thanks go to the nursing staff and all other regular Northwood staff on 6th floor who were like a second family to Jeanette. Many have shared how much they enjoyed her feistiness and sense of humour. Thanks also to John O’Keefe (Manager of Social Work) and the other social workers, Dr. Meehan, Tasha Ross and Michelle Bumstead, Recreation staff, staff in the business office and pharmacy, and many more.
Sincere thanks to Wayne and Ginny Hennigar and other relatives and many friends who have been so thoughtful and helpful to Jeanette over the years.
The family would also like to thank physiotherapist Scott Symonds and Anna Hirtle who did chair yoga with Jeanette. She looked forward to working with them every week.
Thanks to H. W. Angus Funeral Home in New Glasgow, NS who took care of matters after Jeanette’s passing. Her ashes will be buried in a private graveside ceremony at the Riverton Cemetery (Pictou County, NS) sometime in the Spring. There will be no memorial service in Halifax.
Messages to the family can be sent through the H.W. Angus Funeral Home website: http://www.angusfuneralhomes.com/guestbook?focus=95415
