Clouston, Byron Clifford
The death of Byron Clouston of Oromocto occurred on January 6th, 2016 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Bathurst, NB, on October 6th, 1925, he was the son of the late Willard and Minnie (Good) Clouston and husband to Alma (Olsson) Clouston.
Byron is survived by his wife, Alma (Olsson); his children, Glenda Clouston (Ken McLeod) of Calgary, AB, Evelyn Ward of Calgary, AB, and Norman Clouston (Karen) of Oromocto, NB; seven grandchildren, Linnea, Stacey, Michael, Sherry, Elizabeth, Lindsey and Robert; three great-grandchildren, Deakon, Charlotte and Mitchell; siblings, Ola Brown, Hilda MacKay, Hazen Clouston (Ruth), Murray Clouston (Edna), Ella Davidson, Essel Smith (Alton), Hugh Clouston (Edith) and Carl Clouston.
He was predeceased by his parents and five siblings.
Byron was a decorated Korean War Veteran and a British Empire Medal recipient. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1945 until his retirement in 1973 as a Major. He served overseas as part of the UN Middle East Peacekeeping Mission in the 1950's. He had several postings throughout his military career including Soest Germany, Ottawa, Borden, Halifax, Summerside, Downsview and Base Gagetown. Following his military career he worked for the Provincial Civil Service retiring in 1990.
Byron was devoted to his wife and family, was a man of great integrity and generosity. He had a sense of humor and was a gifted craftsman.
Visitation will be held at Oromocto Baptist Church, 10 Doyle Drive, Oromocto, NB on Saturday, January 16th, 2015 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm with The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #93 holding a tribute at 2 pm. The funeral service will be held at Oromocto Baptist Church on Sunday, January 17th at 2 pm. Rev. Dr. Perry Hanley will officiate assisted by Rev. Robert Weaver. Interment will take place in St. Alban's Cemetery, Bathurst, at a later date.
