Passed peacefully away at the St. John's Long Term Care Facility following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 49 years, Ruth (MacLellan); children Melissa Simmonds (Dion), Janet (Todd Hynes) and Walter (Justyna Waclawek); grandchildren Jack, Katie, Jane, Julie, Carolina and Anna; brother John (Sandra); aunt Eileen Mason; sister-in-law Cherry Attwood; brothers-in-law Roy MacLellan, Joe West and Keith Day (Cindy), as well as a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by his parents John and Inez (Bennett) Lawlor and sister Janet Marie Day. Walter was an employee of CBC radio and television for 35 years. Upon retirement he actively volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Blood Services, and Parkinson Society Newfoundland and Labrador. Our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of 3NE and the Recreation Dept. at the St. John's Long Term Care Facility for their exceptional and compassionate care of Walter and the kindness shown to the family over the past two years. Visitation will take place at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Wednesday, January 13th and Thursday, January 14th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will take place at Mary Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church on Friday, January 15th at 9:30am. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
