Elizabeth (Betty Jane) Boucher
March 15, 1961 – January 6, 2016
It is with great sadness the family of Elizabeth (Betty Jane) Boucher of Moose Jaw announce her passing on January 6, 2016. Betty Jane was the beloved wife of Darwyn Boucher, proud mother of Lyndon (fiancée Chelsey) and Mitchell of Moose Jaw. She was a caring daughter to her father John J. McConnell of Saskatoon, a dear sister to Mary Ann (Bob) McConnell-Boehm of Edmonton and aunt to Brianne and Ethan of Edmonton; sister-in-law to Sara Gebreab and aunt to John Jr., Ben and Julia McConnell of Calgary; beloved sister-in-law to Stacey (David) Virgin of Regina and aunt to Giles and Cassandra of Regina; and beloved McConnell niece and cousin. She was predeceased by mother Doreen in 2007 and brother John in 2015. Betty decided her most important early role was to be a mother and a homemaker. She sacrificed her teaching career to be “home by choice” as she would often put it. This was not a judgment of others but just her conviction of what was best for our family. She was a wonderful caring mother and homemaker. She created beauty in her artwork, flower gardens, homes and fashion. Her unique humour and contagious laugh created countless moments of happiness and joy. Betty Jane’s passion for animal welfare was evident through the love and care she gave her cats, dogs, horses and any orphaned animal. Her purpose in life was to help others. Whether it was teaching children, raising her own children, supporting Darwyn or caring for family, friends or animals in their time of need. She was a devoted caregiver. Betty Jane fought a courageous and supported battle with mental illness. If love were a cure for this illness; she would be here with us today. Betty Jane was born in Regina March 15, 1961 to parents Doreen (Ratcliffe) and John McConnell. She attended Evan Hardy Collegiate and obtained a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan. Her first teaching position was in McKitrick Community School, North Battleford, SK before meeting Darwyn. They were married July 11, 1987 and eventually settled in Moose Jaw. Betty Jane’s supportive and nurturing ways could be seen in all aspects of her life as devoted mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend. She will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main Street North, Moose Jaw on Saturday January 16, 2016 at 1:30pm. Family and friends are invited to join them in the church social hall following the service. Reverend David Moore will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658 Moose Jaw, SK S6H 7K7 or Mental Health & Addiction Services Care of Moose Jaw Health Foundation 55 Diefenbaker Dr. Moose Jaw, SK S6J 0C2.In living memory of Betty Jane, a memorial planting will be made by W.J.
