Spinney, Delbert Stewart
1929-2016
Delbert Stewart Spinney, 86, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on January 14, 2016. Born in St. George, NB, he was a son of the late Charles and Edith (Stewart) Spinney. Delbert attended the Saint John Vocational School and worked as a draftsman at MacAvity before moving to Halifax, NS. There, he worked at HMC Dockyard, and met and married Connie (Pierce). The family moved to Moncton in 1965, where Delbert joined Transport Canada and remained until he retired in 1990.
Through his life, Delbert kept active with many outdoor activities including hunting and fishing, skating, and cross country skiing. He also enjoyed oil painting and gardening. In later years, he was a member of the Woodcarving Guild, and a member of Charlie's Angels Round Dance Club.
Delbert was loved and will be sadly missed by his wife Connie, sons Alan (Helen), Philip (Leona) and Stephen (Cheryl), grandchildren Andrew, Eric, Shannon and Erin, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family, being predeceased by his parents and brothers Donald and Edward.
Visitation will be held on Monday January 18, 2016 from 7 to 9 pm at St. George’s Anglican Church, where a memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 19, 2016 at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
