Ann Harling

HARLING, ANN RHEVA
Ann Harling, a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend to so many passed away peacefully at her home in Rothesay on Monday, January 18, 2016. Ann was born on October 3, 1930 in Campbellton to Charles and Leila (Downs) Tyler.
Ann devoted over 30 years to the healthcare profession she so valued. First as an RN graduating from the Montreal General in 1952, then venturing to Pakistan as a field nurse before focusing on Public Health in New Brunswick where she specialized in maternal and child health. Her name was synonymous with dedicated and trusted specialized healthcare for children in need. She also offered her time, energy and expertise to a number of provincial, regional, national and international projects and associations including the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) Executive Board, and 40 years on the CPHA NB/PEI Board of Directors and was bestowed an honorary life member designation from the Association. In 1995 she was awarded the R. D. Devries Award – CPHA’s highest award for contribution in public health.
Ann had a keen mind and was in her element when discussing politics, public policy and current events with friends and family. Another passion Ann had was international travel that included work assignments in Indonesia, China, and Israel to name a few. Ann was a great storyteller and those who had the pleasure of hearing about her travels were amazed at her independence and sense of adventure. Ann also had a flare for fashion and art and collected many meaningful pieces over the course of her lifetime. Ann had tremendous spunk, fierce spirit and was so much fun to be around.
Leaving to mourn are her children Charlie Harling (Debbie Rathwell) and Sandra Caines (David) of Rothesay, sister Marly McPeake of Halifax, grandchildren Sarah and Ally Barber; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Arrangements are entrusted under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). In keeping with Ann’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. Family will gather at Shadow Lawn on Thursday, January 21st from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Friends are invited to drop by and reminisce – something Ann dearly loved to do.
Donations in Ann’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, SPCA-Animal Rescue or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
