Donald Roger MacIntosh

Born In: Port Morien

Passed in: Dartmouth
Passed on: January 16th, 2016

It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the death of our beloved husband, father and grandfather on Jan. 16, 2016 in the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Donald was born in Port Morien to Glenn and Effie (MacGregor) MacIntosh. He married his childhood sweetheart and love of his life, Margie, and they enjoyed over 60 years together as a couple, being married for over 54 years. Donald and Margie were always together and truly enjoyed each other’s company whether it be taking a trip, walking on the Morien Sandbar, dancing, spending a day shopping or sitting in the sun porch working on their crossword puzzles. Donald loved his family and enjoyed spending time visiting with his daughters in Dartmouth and Halifax. He loved to go shopping with his girls and could always find a store where they would find something silly to laugh about. He loved spending time with his son, both holding a passion for working with tools, and they did many renovation projects together over the years. Donald’s grandchildren were his pride and joy and he spent many hours with them whether they were hammering nails, playing catch, learning to skate or just hanging out and chatting about their lives. He enjoyed watching them participate in their sporting events and in most recent years spending time at the rink watching his youngest grandchildren play hockey. Donald was a kind man and loved living in Port Morien. In the 1970s he spent two terms serving the residents of his community as their municipal councilor. He served as a volunteer firefighter with the Port Morien Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Donald loved to go to work, working for over 50 years as an accountant, retiring at the age of 70 from Roach Perry Anderson. To say he will be missed is a huge understatement.
Donald was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Thelma.
He is survived by his wife, Margie; his daughters, Lori Nearing (Stephen), Shelley O’Leary (Joe), Sandra Jean Martell (Blaine) and his son, John Glenn (Tanya). He was blessed with the best grandchildren in the world and leaves behind Andrew, Elizabeth, Michael, Patrick, Matthew, Garrett and Chelsea.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the ICU Dartmouth General for their wonderful care. Thank you to Deacon Gordon MacKinnon for his visit and prayers. A special thank you to Pat Foley for his support.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Donald’s life will take place at Patten’s Funeral Home in Glace Bay on Friday Jan. 22 at 10 a.m., followed by a reception in the Port Morien Fire Hall.
Donations in memory of Donald may be given to the Port Morien Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice.
