Doris 'Vivian' Lockman

Born In: Glace Bay

Passed in: Glace Bay
Passed on: January 15th, 2016

We, the family, regret to announce the passing of our much beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Vivian Lockman, formerly of Fourth St., New Aberdeen, on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016 at Seaview Manor in her 89th year.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Morgan) Mugford of Clarkes Beach, Nfld. Educated in Glace Bay schools, she met and married the love of her life, Donald John Lockman, upon his return from overseas and spent 59 busy years together before his passing in 2007.
Left to mourn her passing are eight of her 10 children: Florence Clark, Toronto, Bill (Jan), Kitchener, Ont., Donna MacKenzie, Glace Bay, Brenda (Glen Mitchelitis), Reserve, Bruce (Debra), Toronto, Debbie (Arnold) McKinnon, Glace Bay, David (Linda Currie), Dominion, Carol (Greg) Comer, Glace Bay.
Mom, your arms were always open when we needed a hug, your heart understood when we needed a friend, your gentle eyes were stern when we needed a lesson, your strength and love guided us and gave us wings to fly!
Mom is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Melissa MacInnis, Megan Comer, Mark McCormick, Alyson MacKenzie-MacDonald, David and Colin Dean, Amanda, Kim Nicole and Blair MacKinnon and Brendon Lockman; 16 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Daniel, Alexis, Morgan, Hannah, Landon, Joshua, Jersey, Jory, Carson, Mitchell, Kyle, Emma, Noah, Maylyn and Declan; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A devoted wife and mother, Mom was a “softie” when it came to her grand babies, she gave generously of her time, treats and welcomed them all with open arms, day or night.
Besides her parents and husband, Mom was predeceased by her stepfather, Arthur Bobbitt, after mom lost her Dad at the tender age of four; two children, John Richard and Mary Patricia; brother, Wallace; sisters, Ethel (late Edward) Pyke, Evelyn (late Phil) Simms; grandchildren, Kent and Alicia Dean.
The impact Mom had on our lives will be felt forever and we rejoice knowing she is safe in the arms of God as promised in John 3:16.
At mom’s request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will take place on Friday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with the Salvation Army officiating. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Salvation Army.
Online condolences may be sent to www.pattenfuneral.com.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. T. Hewlett and staff of Renal Dialysis, those who cared for her at Seaview Manor and to the many E.H.S staff who were so attentive in Mom's travels these past five years.
