Haggerty, Margaret R.- It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Margaret R. Haggerty at the age of 98 on Tuesday January 19, 2016 at the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
Margaret was born on May 17, 1917 a daughter of the late Simon and Ida (Jardine) Snyder and went to join them in heaven.
Margaret lived in Pictou County most of her life and was a long time employee of the Evening News and also had her own radio show and published two cookbooks.
She was known for her love of travel and drove by herself from California to Pictou.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Margaret (Gordon) Hillier, North Sydney, a son Christopher (Sandra) Almon, Oshawa; step-children Lorraine (Allison) MacNeil. Stellarton; Barry Haggerty, Edmonton; Lloyd (Judith) Haggerty, Big Island, a sister Vivian Murray, New Glasgow; 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great- grandchildren, several nieces and nephews
Besides her parents Margaret was predeceased by husbands Vincent Almon and Cecil Haggerty, brothers Brenton, Walter, Carman and a sister Marjorie Cabot.
Margaret will be sadly missed by everyone who loved her. She was a friend to many.
Cremation to take place.
At Margaret’s request there will be no visitation or funeral.
A family graveside committal service will be held at a later date at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the First United Church, Trenton.
A special thank you to the staff of the Glen Haven Manor for the care and compassion given to Margaret and the family, also to Robin Murdoch, Anita Wynands, Janet King and Sister Mary.
