Passed on: January 20th, 2016

1936-2016
Passed peacefully away in his 79th year on January 20, 2016 at 3:30 a.m. at the Palliative Care Unit of the Miller Centre surrounded by his loving family. We, sadly announce the peaceful passing of a "witty spoken mountain man" our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. Predeceased by his parents John and Mary McGrath, brother Gerard, sister Nora and parents-in-law Dennis and Rose McGrath. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories after a courageous battle with cancer, his wife of 49 years Lucy; daughters Geraldine Layman (Wayne), Michelle McGrath (husband Chris Lane) and son Michael (Donna); grandchildren Grant and MacKenzie; brothers Harold (Maryanne), Joey (sadie), Madonna (Clem, deceased), Thomas (Donna), Cecilia (Ambrose, deceased), Mary (Andy), John (Winnie), Fidelis, many nieces and nephews and other extended family members and friends. Also leaving to mourn special sister-in-law Rita McGrath and husband Adrian McGrath and their family. Dad was a witty man, a hard worker all his life and he instilled these virtues in all his children and implored in us the value of education, but it was his love of family that came first and foremost. Some people make the world more special just by being in it; that was Michael Joseph McGrath. Resting at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.. Funeral Mass to take place from St. Patrick's Church on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. with internment to follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Patrick's Cove. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations made in his honour to the Canadian Cancer Society.

"To the world he was a man, to us he was our world."
