Passed on: January 17th, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean (Strachan) Hennessey. Jean passed away comfortably at MacGillivary Guest Home, Sydney on Sunday, Jan 17, 2016.
Born July 19, 1923, in Framboise, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late George W. and Catherine (MacLeod) Strachan.
Jean is survived by her loving extended family, which includes many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband, Murdock Hennessey; sisters, Effie (Kenneth) Morrison, Peggy (George) MacLellan, Alma (Sylvia) Volpe and Wilma Strachan; brothers, George (Mary), Dan and Soutter (Edith).
Jean and her husband, Murdock, lived in Sydney for approximately 40 years. Every summer they would spend time in Framboise where Jean grew up. Later in her life, Jean would spend most of the summer in Framboise with her sisters and her brother enjoying the company of family and friends who would visit them. While in Framboise, they would enjoy picking berries, telling stories, drives to Caplin Cove, picking Dulce and Periwinkles at Framboise Cove and playing cards. They particularly enjoyed playing 45s and crib. Jean was able to accomplish the most difficult task of obtaining a 29 hand in crib not once, but twice. She was an excellent cook and would always have a cup of tea and lunch for family and friends visiting from the country. She was a great seamstress and was known for her style in clothing and accessories. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Family would like to thank MacGillivary Guest Home, Richmond Villa and Alderwood Rest Home staff for their quality care during Jean’s stay with them.
A memorial service will be held Aug. 2016, in Framboise, when family and friends will be present to celebrate her life.
Donations in memory of Jean may be made to St. Andrew’s Church Cemetery, Framboise, N.S., St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Framboise, N.S. or to a charity of choice.
