LANDRY, Roger Joseph – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our brother Roger, aged 67, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on Thursday, January 21st , 2016.
Born in Dupuis Corner, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Charles & Justine Landry.
The Landry Family moved to Pictou, Nova Scotia on Dec. 1, 1950. Roger attended Pictou schools and graduated from Pictou Regional Vocational School in 1966 with ‘Electrical Construction’ certificate. Roger also earned interprovincial papers.
He was employed with Nova Scotia Power, Canso Chemicals and Joe Hudry Electrical. In April of 1970 Roger became a paraplegic as a result of a car accident. He was very involved with the Nova Scotia Paraplegic Association and enjoyed playing wheelchair basketball.
Roger was always a man of great faith and was a true inspiration to all who knew him.
He is survived by nine sisters, Yvette Landry, Claudette Scanlan (Dave Titus), Hilda MacKenzie (Dougie), Noelle Doucette (Emile), Leona Clarke (Donnie), Lorraine Chapman (Gordon), Doreen Landry (Mel Martens), Doris Melanson (Eugene), Mary Louise Sutherland (Larry); and seven brothers, Omer Landry (Irene), Charlie Landry (Chriss), Paul Landry (Sandra), Frances Landry (Thelma), Robert Landry (Patsy), Philip Landry (Anne), Gerald Landry. Roger is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by sister, Lorraine Agnes (in infancy).
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday, January 25th in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, January 26th from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating.
Donations in Roger’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital or to a charity of one’s choice.
At this time we would like to thank Dr. Randy Burrill, Dr. Gerry Farrell, nurses at the Aberdeen Hospital and the VON, for their excellent care. Roger was also blessed with the wonderful support of many close friends. WE THANK YOU!
