We the family of the late Muriel Anne Murphy regret to announce her passing on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Shelburne, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Jessie (MacKinnon) MacKay.
Muriel worked for General Instruments, the Canadian Coast Guard College, Jack Gardiners and Andrews Convenience store as well as being a life long member with the Royal Canadian Legion (Branch 126), Ladies Auxiliary and the Loyal True Blue Lodge (Sydney 202).
Muriel is survived by her husband Wes Murphy; sons Brian Doucet (Laura) and Les Doucet (Amanda); brothers Hughie Mackay (Shirley), Gordon Mackay (Joy) and sister Jean Vidito (Al) and Grandsons Matt and Kyle.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her stepfather Jack Feener.
Visitation for Muriel will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. From 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service to take place the following day Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel with Norma Mills, DLM officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
