It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Nancy Arlene Bernard, 57, of Eskasoni, announce her passing on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late James Bernard and Rita (Poulette) Aucoin.
For over 10 years, Nancy was employed at Membertou Market. Prior to working in Membertou, she was a teacher’s aid for the disabled at Whitney Pier Memorial Jr. High.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherisse (Quentin) Sylliboy; sons, William (Colleen Rose) Bernard, Jonathan 'J.J.' Denny, Joel 'Chico' (Sarah) Denny and James 'Jay' (Vickie) Denny; sister, Roseanne Bernard, all of Eskasoni. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Devon, Kindra, Marren, Logan, Joel III, Mikayla, Dwan, Mya, James, Owen, Trinity, Trishelle, Shaelynn, Jayden, Harmony, Nylah, Quentin Jr., Kyah, Treven, Quincy, John, Faith, Hope and Aiden; godchildren, Zusun Parnell, Jason Lewis, John Albert Poulette and Richard Young.
Nancy was predeceased by her stepfather, Eddie Aucoin; sister, Irene Bernard; brother, Tommy Bernard.
Visitation will begin after 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 28 at the family home on 4814 Shore Rd., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Saturday 10 a.m., with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the An Cala, Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
