John Francis "Frank" Strain

Peacefully at the Dr. John Gillis Memorial Lodge on Monday, January 25, 2016, the death occurred of John Francis "Frank" Strain, age 88.
Born in Charlottetown, he was a son of the late James and Agnes (nee MacDonald) Strain.
Frank is survived by his children, Frank (Michelle) Strain of Sackville, N.B., Paul Strain of Savage Harbor and Sandra (Lorin) Brehaut of Guernsey Cove; grandchildren, Stephen Strain, Louisa Strain, Samantha Strain, Sydney Strain and Isabella Brehaut.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Teresa (nee McCormack); brothers, Jim and Ted Strain; sister, Joan Strain.
Frank was a graduate of Saint Dunstan's University. Hockey was one of his many passions in life. He is a member of the UPEI sports hall of fame as the goaltender for the 1947 Maritime Hockey Championship team, played for the P.E.I. Islanders in the Maritime Big Four League in the early 1950's and served as President of the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association and Maritime Amateur Hockey Association (NB/PEI) in the late 60's and early 70's. He sat on the Charlottetown School Board from the mid 1960's until the early 1970's and was instrumental in the creation and building of Colonel Gray High School. Frank was also a long time environmentalist who spent many years protecting his beloved Deroche Pond and sand dunes.
Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home until Friday afternoon, then transferred to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer for funeral mass at 1:30 p.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m.
