Bernadette Marie O'Neill-Whelan

Bernadette O'Neill-Whelan passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 24th, 2016 in the presence of her loving family. Left with sad hearts, but fond and happy memories are her loving and devoted husband Brian, and treasured children Sara (Colin Haley) and William. Predeceased by her father Francis O'Neill, and father-in-law William Whelan. She leaves to mourn her mother Theresa O'Neill (Power) and sisters Elaine (Gerry Squires) and Marie (Trevor Miller), mother-in-law Caroline Whelan (Marks), brothers-in-law Mike (Blanche) Whelan, Pat (Gladys) Whelan, Danny (Bonnie) Whelan, Philip Whelan (Karen March), Basil (Karen) Whelan, Billy Whelan, and Sean (Sharon) Whelan and sister-in-law Mary (Lee) O'Quinn, nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends. Bernadette devoted her life to her family. As a teacher, she helped numerous children academically and her achievement was measured by their success. For those who knew Bernadette, she had a kind and generous spirit. She fought a brave fight with a positive attitude and her strength and determination made way for grace and dignity. She will be forever in the hearts of those she held dear. Bernadette's family would like to thank Dr. Essaji and Community Health Nurses for their exceptional dedication and compassionate care. At Bernadette's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mt. Pearl, on Wednesday, January 27th, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A memorial service will be held at Barrett's Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 28th, at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
