Passed on: January 26th, 2016

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearest mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Wanda Amaryllis 'Mae' Cousins, on Jan. 26, 2016 at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines on Jan. 24, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Frank Gloglowski and late Mary E. Bonner.
Mom worked at National Sea in North Sydney for many years while raising a family and taking on role as caregiver for most of her life. Mom had a natural ability to help others and did so without hesitation. Mom loved her "Newfie" music on Saturday afternoons, and the highlight of her week was playing TV Bingo with her family. Mae will be fondly remembered for her wittiness, jokes, and the way she lit up a room.
Mae is survived by her sons, Warren and Lenny (Patsy) and her precious grandchildren, Erica (Jordan), Brendan (Laura Jayne) and Lance (Nakia). Mae is also survived by her brothers, Frank (Rita) and John; sisters, Shelia (Dannie) and Brenda (Harold); brothers-in-law, Ruben (Lorna), John (Claire), John; sisters-in-law, Marjorie, Dort (Russell), Adeline; special niece, Janna, many nieces and nephews, special friend Valerie and her cat "baby". Mae is also survived by her extended family in Ontario.
Besides her parents and husband, Warren (Gumbo) Cousins, she was predeceased by mother, Aggie Gloglowski; brother, Leonard; sisters, Patricia (Sister), Jean (Len); brothers-in-law, Charlie (Mammie), James, Leroy (Annie) and sisters-in-law, Helen (Stan), Lucy, Liz, Lorraine (Collie) and special aunts, Mary, Libby and Stacia.
At this time we would like to thank Dr. Paul Hickey, who was not only a doctor, but a loyal friend, the staff and patients at the Renal Unit at Northside General, who were her second family, the nursing staff at Northside General, especially 4 West and 5th floor, palliative care, VON, and the Northside Visiting Homemakers, who were more like friends than caregivers.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. A reception will take place in the parish hall, following the mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mae’s memory may be made to the Renal Unit, Northside General Hospital, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
