Muriel G. “Moo” MacAloney

Muriel G. “Moo” MacAloney

MacAloney, Muriel G. “Moo” – Age 95, of Parrsboro. On Friday, January 22, 2016 Muriel "Moo" MacAloney passed from this earth as quietly as she lived in it. Muriel was born on a farm in Lakelands in 1920 to her beloved parents, the late Merton and Beulah (DeMille) Henwood. It was on this farm that Muriel nicknamed herself "Moo" and it was here she learned the meaning of hard work but she never complained. She is likely giving Heaven a little dusting right now. As a young woman she went to work for Mr. & Mrs. Earl Hanna and immediately became one of the family. It is here that she honed her baking, cleaning and care giving skills. Later when she and her husband Thorny moved to Truro, she resumed her role as caregiver to several families. Upon returning to Amherst, she lovingly cared for her Uncle Earl and Aunt Gladys DeMille, always thinking of others and never herself. She later returned to Parrsboro where she spent her days puttering and entertaining us all with many fond stories of her childhood and her life well lived. “Moo” had resided at the South Cumberland Community Care Center since June of 2015 and her family would sincerely like to thank all the "Superman" staff for their compassion and care. Muriel is mourned by her beloved son, Wylie "Wig" (Judy Dow) Henwood; granddaughters, Donna Gallagher (Wendell), Cheryl Morris (Rod); great granddaughters, Jill and Laura Gallagher; Melanie, Olivia and Abby Morris; her sister, Shirley Forbes and niece Marilyn Wilson and their families. As well, her special ‘chosen’ family, Marion Kyle, Laurie Hanna and their families. She was predeceased by her husband, Thornton; a sister, Eileen Collins (and her husband, Bob); a brother, Stanley (and his wife, Ruth). As per Muriel's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral services held. A private family graveside will be take place in the Spring. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the South Cumberland Community Care Center Foundation, Parrsboro. Arrangements entrusted to Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
