Dola Freelove Carnell

Born: July 17th, 1931

Passed on: January 11th, 2016

Dola was born on July 17, 1931 to James and Ann Maria Allingham. She had six brothers and one sister. She married Stephen Carnell Sr. and they had 10 children and raised a grandson: Sibyl, Edna, Nancy, Gloria, Mary, Barbara, Carol, Stephen, Rona, Dawn and Gary (grandson). As a young woman she worked in the hospitals in St. Anthony and Flowers Cove. Later, for about 20 years she worked in the fish plant in Flowers Cove. She often recalled the many great years she worked there with the "women in the plant" and told fondly remembered stories. Dola was happiest when surrounded by her children and their families. Cooking meals and baking for her husband, children and grandchildren were things that she took great pride in and she was at her happiest times when doing things for her family. Berry picking, knitting, word searches, and weekly bingo were some of her favourite activities. Dola travelled to Alberta, Northwest Territories and Labrador to see where her children had settled down. In recent years she loved going home to her favourite place, Flowers Cove for summer and Christmas vacations. Her puppy, Brandi provided her with 13 years of companionship and joy. Dola Freelove Carnell of Flowers Cove passed peacefully away on January 11, 2016 surrounded by a large number of family and friends, of whose lives she touched dearly. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Sibyl Chubbs (late Sterling) and Gloria White (Ernie) of Goose Bay, Mary Reeves (Tony) and Barbara Carnell of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Carol Carnell (Doug Frise) of Hay River, Northwest Territories, Stephen Carnell Jr. (Bernedette Lake) of Flowers Cove, Rona Fradsham (Sean) of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Dawn Carnell of Goose Bay, Gary Carnell (Katy) of Fawcett, Alberta, and her puppy Brandi; grandchildren Michelle Chubbs, Christopher Chubbs (Amy), Kent White, Kara White (Paul), Sherri Sullivan, Sherryl White (Lee Parker), Sandi O'Brien (Eric), Stephen Carnell (Jenni), Stacey Carnell, William Carnell, JJ Carnell, David Lake, Sheila Lake, Jade Carnell (Anna), and Haylee Fradsham; great-grandchildren Michael Chubbs, Tristan White, Kyleigh Lane, Damien, Dakota and Dillon Sullivan, Taylor White and Drake White, Rylee and Talon O'Brien, Holly Carnell, Chayse and Simi Carnell, Megan Parsons, Daniel, Adam and Jessica Lake, and Bentley Carnell, and son-in-law Henry White (Shirley).
