It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Carl) MacDonald at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2016.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late William and Annie (Connor) MacDonald.
He was the loving husband to the late Georgina (Mercer) MacDonald and loving father to daughter, Mary Beth; stepdaughters, Brenda (Paul), Kim (Brian), Judy (Craig), Lisa; stepson, Doug; grandchildren, Crystal, Cheryl, Jason, Daniel, Lyndon, Courtney, Devon and Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Logan, Madison, Callie, Carly and Georgia.
Besides his wife, Carl was predeceased by son, Scott; siblings, Gwen, Jerry and Anita; grandson, Robbie. Up until his retirement, Carl was a Nova Scotia Land Surveyor. He was an active member of the Cape Breton Christian Fellowship as a board member. He will be greatly missed by his many Christian friends. Carl was an avid sports player, who gave of his time coaching hockey and baseball so others could enjoy his passions. His favourite team was the Montreal Canadiens. Carl was a gentle giant, loved by all. He will be tremendously missed by man’s “best friend” Lacey.
Visitation for Carl is on Sunday, Jan. 31 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1st at Curry’s Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Kevin Mattatall will be officiating.
Donations in Carl’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Christian Fellowship Church or a charity of one’s choice.
