It is with great sadness that the family of John Patrick Ward announces his passing after a long battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease, on Saturday, January 30, 2016, in his 73rd year. Son of the late John and Katherine Ward. Loving husband of the late Genevieve (nee Hynes) Ward. Dear brother of Russell Ward, Alphonsus Ward (Rosalind), Genny Dalton (Late Ronald), and. Predeceased by his brothers and sister Aiden, Cecil (Late Gertrude), Leo (Joanne), Theresa Walsh (Frank), Vera Coady (Late William), and Victor (Late Theresa) Ward. John will be lovingly remembered by his children: Robert (Cindy), Stephen (Candice), Ronnie (Anna), and Jeffrey. John will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren: Matthew, Jenna (Justin), Ashley, Robyn, Jordan, Johnathon, and Jake, and his great-grandchild Jensen, Jared, and Jude. John will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends. Ward worked as a shovel operator in the Wabush Mines until a brain aneurism caused his early retirement in 1999, bringing his love of hard work home to all of his boys. He also loved fishing, hunting, and putting his family first. He will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 2, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Ryan's Funeral Home, Bay Bulls. A Mass of Christian Burial in memory of John will be held on Wednesday, February 3, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Witless Bay. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Holy Cross R.C. Cemetery, Witless Bay. Those who desire may make memorial donations in memory of John to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
