It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we, the family, announce that our beloved husband, father, son, granddad, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend, Danny Howley, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the palliative care unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016.
Born in Glace Bay on July 12, 1948, he was the son of Thelma (Donahue) Howley and the late Daniel Howley.
Danny was retired from his position as an instructor at the Nova Scotia Community College, Akerley Campus in Dartmouth, N.S., where he was recognized as teacher of the year on numerous occasions. A skilled tradesperson, Danny was also a pipe trades instructor for many years at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, and owned and operated a renovation company in Cape Breton along with his two sons prior to his employment at NSCC.
Danny is survived by his wife, Janet (Arbuckle); children, Shaun (Lynnette), Jennifer (Darren) and Michael (Crystal); seven grandchildren; his mother; brothers, David (Clara) and John (Trina); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Danny will be remembered as a most entertaining and engaging conversationalist, with a keen intellect, wonderful sense of humour and great love of family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m., followed by a reception, all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only please. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton District Health Authority or the Victorian Order of Nurses.
