KEAN, Kathleen Barbara, (born Atkinson), of Jordan Bay, July 24, 1924 - January 29, 2016, passed away at Magnolia Nursing Home in Enfield, NS on January 29, 2016. Born in Port LaTour, NS, she was the daughter of the late Millage and Maisie Atkinson. She married the late Ralph Kean in 1943 and they had four daughters, as well as numerous foster children. Kathleen had an active social life, enjoyed meeting with family and friends for a game of cards or bingo, and was known throughout the community for her cooking and baking. She was a talented quilter and enjoyed painting ceramics, both of which remain cherished gifts among her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. She is survived by her daughters: Joyce (David), Grand Falls, NL; Joanne, Calgary; Evelyn (Brian), Elmsdale, NS; and Shirley (John), Porters Lake, NS; 8 grandchildren: Kathy, Susan, Bridget, Ted, Regan, Jillian, Leslie and Brandon; and a number of great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by husband Ralph Kean, companion Paul Falt, sisters Ada Deveau, Edith Nickerson, Evangeline MacLean, Olive Schieder and brothers, Everett Atkinson, Freeman Atkinson, Gerald Atkinson, and Herman Atkinson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, Shelburne. A memorial was held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 in H.M. Huskilson's Chapel, Shelburne with Pastor Cynthia Dunnett officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society, Roseway Manor, Shelburne, or Magnolia Continuing Care, Enfield.
