VERA LE DREW
1924 – 2016
It is with profound sadness and inimitable hope that we announce the death of Vera Le Drew (nee Buchanan) on January 29, 2016. Vera was born in Moose Jaw on December 8, 1924. She grew up on two farms, the first in Spring Valley and then near Weirdale. Education was near to her heart, particularly a love for literature. Vera also had a passion for sports, excelling at softball. Vera’s adult life was dedicated to helping others. From enlisting in the air force as an eighteen year old and becoming a wireless operator in WW II to becoming a Registered Nurse and working to help myriads of people of different ages and circumstances, to sharing the vision of universal health care and investing herself in that quest alongside Dr. O. K. Hjertaas, Vera was a person who worked at walking the talk. Vera deeply loved her family. No sacrifice was too great. Her love for literature, for nature, particularly birds, and dedication to physical exercise continued until her last hospitalization. Vera is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Ken, her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Martha, her 3 cherished granddaughters, Chelsa (Kris) Mack, Elise Le Drew and Lynnaea (Riley Leboe) Le Drew, her sister, Lynn Egan, her brother, Don Buchanan, and sister-in-law, Adrien Jensen, her special nieces, Carol Berg, Donna Buchanan and Sharon Phillip, as well as her special friend, Betty Britz. Vera was predeceased by her parents, George and Pearl, her brothers, Niles, Bud and George, her sisters, Edith Foulds and Helen Bristowe, as well as numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law. The family expresses their deep appreciation to the staff of Good Shepherd Villa, particularly Pat Chuey for five years of excellent care of Vera. The family also expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff of Level 4 at the Victoria Hospital for their skillful compassion. Memorial donations may be made in Vera’s memory to Messiah Lutheran Church, 1796 15th Avenue East, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 8A1, or the Evangelical Lutheran Broadcast, Box 1717, Prince Albert, SK, S6V 5T3. We love you, Mom! More than you will ever know. Vera’s life will be celebrated at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1796 15th Avenue East, Prince Albert at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, Pastor Íris Kristjánsdóttir officiating. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to River Park Memorial Chapel, Don Moriarty, funeral director.
