It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Elizabeth Anne O'Keefe, age 83, on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at her home in Westmount.
Elizabeth 'Bette Jo' was born in North Sydney, Sept. 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Theophilus and Elizabeth (Strong) Buffett.
She was employed with Canada Post at the North Sydney Postal Terminal until her retirement. Bette Jo and her sister Marie were constant shoppers and knew where all the great buys could be found in Canada and the USA. She was a great cook, she loved looking like a million dollars, but her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her son David (Martha) O’Keefe, Leitches Creek, her daughters, Nancy (Reg) MacIsaac, Westmount, Wendy (Ron Williams) Boutilier, Leitches Creek, her granddaughter Janet (Craig) Langer, Geary, N.B. and her grandson Christopher (Natalie) MacIsaac, Albert Bridge, by her great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life, Zoe and Cohen MacIsaac. She is also survived by her sister Marie Porter who resided with her and by her best friend and neighbour Josephine MacLeod, along with a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill O'Keefe and by her brothers, Tom, Dick and Frank Buffett and her sisters, Ester Dunlap, Mabel Shanks and Yvonne Witter.
The family would like to thank again Josephine MacLeod who went above and beyond in helping to care for Bette Jo over the past number of years. Also thanks to the Home Care workers for their excellent care.
By request there will be no visitation. A private family funeral service will be held at a later date with burial at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
