Cornelius A. 'Ken' Lahey, Main a Dieu, born Nov. 24, 1920, passed away peacefully at Harbourview Veterans Unit, Sydney Mines on Feb. 7, 2016.
Ken was the son of the late Charles Lahey and Catherine (O'Neil) Lahey. He was a hard working fisherman for many decades. Ken also was a mechanic and had an aptitude for many types of work by hand. He worked many years as a Lighthouse Keeper and returned to fishing part time again after retiring from the Guyon Island Lighthouse in 1984.
He was predeceased in 2006 by his loving wife of 52 years, Grace Clare Lahey. He was also predeceased by his one brother, Tom Mike and sisters, Marion MacKinnon, Blanche Wadden, Beatrice Johnston and his ever dear twin sister, Jane Wadden.
He was predeceased by one grandson, Ryan, and a great-grandson, Dominic.
Ken will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Catherine(Paul) Steylen and Miriam (Clem) Harris; his two sons, Charlie (Jannie) and Clive (Avie); his 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Surviving are his sister, Ruth Whelan, and a very special person, Linda Brown.
His wish for the last many years has been to reunite with those he loved and missed so much, ever in his thoughts, his wife, Grace and his twin sister, Jane. His family, although sad, take solace in this, celebrate his strength and long life and are grateful for his peaceful passing. Our love goes with him. May he rest in eternal peace.
Many thanks to the staff of Harbourview Veterans Unit who cared for him so well over the last several years.
Donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
