BERNICE MARIE ZAGOZESKI
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Zagozeski, who met her Lord in the early hours of Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016. Born on May 11th, 1922 at Belle Plaine, SK, the eldest daughter of Walter and Monica Zagozeski, Bernice was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Stanley. She is survived by her sister, Helen Leinan, brother, Joseph Zagozeski and their families; cousins and many dear friends, including Jean, René and Éric Landry. Bernice received her education at Belle Plaine School, Central Collegiate and Success Business College in Moose Jaw, Saint Mary's School of Nursing and Health Records Administration in Montréal, and several courses at the University of Regina. Her career took her too many parts of Canada. Bernice was a member of the Sisters of Providence of Kingston, ON from 1944 to 1971. Sponsored by Oxfam, she joined the nursing team of Hospital Amazonico Albert Schweitzer in Pucallpa, Peru for one year. In 1983 she retired from professional life to care for her aged father in Moose Jaw, where she lived for the remainder of her life. Bernice's priorities were centered on her Catholic faith. She loved the Scriptures and shared her knowledge with others. She enjoyed helping immigrants and instructing them in the English language, Canadian geography and citizenship. Her favourite pastimes were art, photography, music, writing essays as well as family biographies. Her pilgrimages to Israel, Rome and Medjugorje are recorded in her journals. Her last nine months were spent at Chez Nous Care Home where she received kindness and attention from a dedicated and compassionate staff. The Mass of the Resurrection will take place on Friday, February 12th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Church of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, 566 Vaughan St, Moose Jaw, SK. Father Jake Ibay will be the presiding celebrant and interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Prayers for the repose of Bernice's soul will take place on Thursday, February 11th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in Moose Jaw Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bernice’s name may be made to Canadian Food for Children, 40 King George Road, Toronto, ON M8X 1L3.
