After a long courageous battle with cancer it is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Doris Hanna (Kummerfeldt), 73. Originally from Germany, Doris called Canada home, being a military wife and mother, living life to the fullest. Many kids took to her as a second mother. She was referred to by many as Mom, Mommy, Memaw & Momma D. She opened her heart and home to many, lending an ear, or a shoulder to cry on or just to give a hug. Doris loved to travel, enjoying visiting relatives and making friends in Germany, England, Australia, Indiana and South Carolina. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She will forever live in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
She is predeceased by her parents and husband ‘Tom’ Hanna and survived by her children Sabine Pace (Doug), Michelle Thrower (David) and Scott Hanna (Diane McCabe) and her three grandchildren Dustin Pace, Alexis & Lukas Hanna, and many family members in Germany.
Huge thanks go out to Dr. R. Graham, Dr. D. Henderson, Lisa Weatherbee (Pall. Care), Monica, VON team, and Truro Hospice Society. You are an amazing team! Special thanks to our friends, family and strangers who contributed to Mom’s Winter Garden.
Following the wishes of Doris, there is to be no funeral service, however a Celebration of her life is to be held on Sunday February 14th, 1 – 4pm at 37 Granville Drive, Upper Onslow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or The IWK Children’s Wish Foundation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Online messages of condolence may be sent to Doris’ family by visiting: www.ColchesterCommunity.com
