David James MacAulay

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David MacAulay. Dave passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born July 22, 1946, in South Bar, Dave was the son of the late George Osmond and Dolena Mae (Durrah) MacAulay.
In 1972, Dave joined the RCMP. While in the RCMP, he was stationed in Windsor, Ont., Toronto, Ont., Chatham, Ont. and finally retired from the drug directorate in Ottawa, Ont. Dave loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing and hiking in Baddeck with his dog, Nikki at his side.
He is survived by his wife, Cecile (Gouthro); sister, Sally Heather (Daniel), Montreal, Que.; sisters-in-law, Pat Horvath and Roberta MacAulay, Sydney; brothers-in-law, Michael Gouthro (Elizabeth), Fort McMurray, Alta. and Gerard Gouthro, Grande Cache, Alta., as well, as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Dave was predeceased by his brother, Darryll and brother-in-law, John Horvath.
Cremation has taken place. As per Dave’s wishes, there will be no visitation and a private family service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the VON, the staff of palliative care and Dr. Glen Worth for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
