Thelma Margaret Marsh (nee Smeaton)

A World War II Veteran, passed peacefully away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at the Health Sciences Complex, Thelma Marsh, age 92 years. Predeceased by her beloved husband, William F. Marsh; parents, Frederick and Katherine Smeaton; sisters, Mary MacDonald and Constance Downey; and brothers, Bill and Fred. Survived by sister-in-law, Nina (wife of Fred). Leaving to mourn, a large extended family and many friends. Thelma was an active, creative and giving woman. She spent years volunteering at VOWR as well as several seniors organizations. She was a great supporter of Memorial University, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and many others. She published two books of poems and stories, including a National Award Winning poem about thoughts of someone living with Alzheimer's, entitled "Remember Me". Thelma recently commented she is the last of the first generation of Smeatons in Newfoundland and would have to turn out the light. Thelma's light is out now. Rest in peace. You will be sadly missed, but never forgotten. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Sunday, February 14, 2016, from 10am-12noon, 2-4pm, and 7-9pm. Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery, Gander, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma's memory may be made to the Janeway Children's Hospital, the Canadian Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
