SKINNER, JOHN "IAN"
FREDERICTON – Ian Skinner, 81 passed at York Manor due to complications of Parkinson’s dementia, surrounded by his wife and three daughters on February 10.
Born in Paisley, Scotland on December 17, 1934, Ian studied metallurgy while in Scotland and immigrated with his new wife to Canada in 1962. Following a lengthy career in the nuclear fuel industry, he finished working as a consultant. He was an active man who enjoyed travel and camping when his family was younger, rugby (playing into his 50’s), racquet sports, skiing, and sailing among many other pursuits, including walking the West Highland Way. Ian also played the bagpipes, participating in the Nova Scotia International Tattoo for two consecutive years while in his 70’s. Ian was known for his love of a good debate, sense of humour and enjoyment of music and singing. Formerly the president of the Fredericton Whisky Tasting Society, he enjoyed educating others about the origins of many a good dram.
Surviving Ian are his loving wife, Ann (Morrison) of 53 years; daughters, Shona (Gary) Fleming, Kanata, ON; Sandra (John) Wilson, Richmond, ON; Sheena Skinner (Antonio Heredia Cuevas) and sister, Elizabeth Darnborough, Oliver, BC; grandchildren, Iain, Rachel, Jake, Megan, Ana Mar, and Niko as well as two nephews (UK) and a niece (BC).
He was predeceased by his sister, Wilma and her husband Robert McEwan (Scotland).
His family would like to thank the staff of York Manor, Tower 2, for their kindness and care as well as many close friends, who have been so supportive.
To honour Ian’s request, a private family celebration of his life will be held.
