It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Gwen, on Feb. 11, 2106
Born in Gardiner Mines, she was the daughter of the late James and Agnes (Petrie) Gouthro.
Gwen was a member of the former Mount Carmel Parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. In her early years she enjoyed playing bingo and shooting darts. Her favourite pastime was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her little buddy, Homer.
Gwen is survived by three daughters, Bernice (Tom) Rockett, Northside East Bay, Donna (Darren) Jewer and Linda (Johnny) Bisson, both of New Waterford; two sons, Billy (Tracey), Kevin (Amanda), both of New Waterford; one sister Kay MacKenzie, Paris, Ont. Gwen also leaves behind her 12 grandchildren, Tommy Rockett, Mandy (Luke) Theriault, Bernie (Candace) Jewer, Justin (Roberta) Jewer, Josh Walker, Jesse Walker (Angelica), Brea Walker, Jonathan (Kayla) Bisson, Jeremy Bisson, Krista Bisson, Natalie Walker, Noah Walker; Six great-grandchildren, Coady Jewer, Lucas Jewer, Taylor Jewer, Mckayla Jewer, Avery Bisson, Jace Bisson.
Gwen was predeceased by her husband Bernie, one grandson, William James Walker, four brothers, Mickey, George, Jimmy and Billy and one sister, Veronica, in infancy.
There will be no visitation as per Gwen's wishes. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Monday, Feb. 15, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford, following the funeral mass.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
