Victor Augustus Whelan

Our family is saddened by the loss of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Victor passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the age of 82 years.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Amy; parents, James and Margaret; brother, Joe; and sisters, Anna and Marion.
Victor will be lovingly remembered by his children, Sharon (Kirk), Jim (Dayle) and David (Anila); his grandchildren, Jackie, Brandy (Trevor), Joe, Luke (Saskia) and Andrew. He is also survived by his sister, Mary; brothers, Jim and Bill; brother-in-law, Jackie (Dawn); as well as a great many nieces and nephews.
Vic was born in Bear River, Prince Edward Island. He later told his mom she saved the best for last as he was the youngest of 8. Vic began his career working in the mines around Sudbury, ON. It was in Northern Ontario where he met Amy. Through hard work and determination Vic became a shaft sinking specialist in the mining industry. This allowed him and Amy to enjoy travelling the world working. Vic worked in the mining industry for 40 years gathering long-lasting friendships along the way. Once retired, Vic travelled anywhere warm where there was a golf course or a fishing pole to be tended to. Vic enjoyed gardening and puttering around the house. He held great pride in the amount of vegetables he could grow in a year. In his last years, Vic assisted Amy in her end of life care in a most loving way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan. A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philip Neri Parish (1902 Munroe Ave. S.).
Arrangements entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home (306-244-5577).
