It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend, Hazel Helen Herney of Eskasoni, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2015 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, at the age of 68.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Ann P. (Denny) Cremo.
Hazel loved driving and cruising around Cape Breton and making her yearly pilgrimages to St. Anne de Beaupre and Chapel Island Mission. She also worked as a medical driver for 17 years along with receptionist for Drs. Virick and Jody Kingston.
She is survived by one daughter, Melinda (Mrs. Marcus Simon); four grandchildren, Julianna (Louis), Keeley, Keyanna and Kellee; three great-granddaughters, Carley, Cameryn and Carmen and a brother, Cyril Matthew Cremo. Also surviving are godchildren, Darren, Kirk, Stanley, Patrick, Jean, Glynis, Layla, Nancy Mae, Sherman, Clifford, Leta and Elizabeth, many nieces and nephews; best friends, Kat, Nora, Annie and Baby and special friends, Auriel, Payson, Jacob, Cady and John ‘Ding’.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Noel; a sister, Mary Josephine; nine brothers, John G., Lee Harvey, Simon Peter, Noel, Leo Joseph, Clifford A., Peter Joseph, Michael Joseph and Clifford Joseph and godchild, John Herney.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Herney will begin on Thursday, Feb. 25 after 7 p.m. at the family residence 5003 Shore Rd., Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
