Frances Claire "Fran" (Fraser) MacLean

Frances Claire "Fran" (Fraser) MacLean - 85, Truro, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2016 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in New Glasgow, N.S. on September 28, 1930, she was the only child of the late Finlay Stewart Fraser and Margaret (MacNaughton) Fraser. Fran graduated from New Glasgow High in 1948 and from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. After receiving her R.N., she worked at Colchester County Hospital, Truro, mostly in the O.R. for 3 years prior to her marriage to Kenneth S. MacLean in 1955. She returned to nursing in 1971 at Hillcrest Manor, a home for special care, for 16 years. She was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Truro. At one time she taught Sunday School, was in the Senior Choir and a long-time member of the Evening Auxiliary (now the Morning Auxiliary) and a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society. Together with her husband, she was a member of the Atlantic Clan MacLean and enjoyed two trips to Scotland and a number of cruises to Alaska and warmer climates.
She is survived by her daughters, Margaret MacLean, Bible Hill and Janet (Kelly) Wilmot, granddaughter Jennifer (Robert Davidson), grandsons Robert (Pamela Hunsley), Jonathan (Julie), all of Truro and Brett (Stephanie Perry), Bonnyville, Alberta and 9 great grandchildren as well as sister-in-law Joan Quirt, Ottawa.
Besides her parents, Fran was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and grandson Michael.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Fran's family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 pm Tuesday. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 2nd at 2:00 pm, at St. James Presbyterian Church, 725 Prince Street, Truro, with Reverend Dr. David Sutherland officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Spring interment will take place in Durham Cemetery. Special thanks are extended to the Palliative Care Team of Colchester East Hants Health Centre and to the staff at Parkland Estates. Family flowers only.
