WHITTAKER, Ronald “Ronnie” Ashton – age 65, Morris Island, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Friday, February 12, 2016 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born August 15, 1950 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Leonard and Lillian (Goodwin) Whittaker. After the death of his father at a young age, Ronnie’s mother then married the man who would become Ronnie’s step-father, Lloyd Dunlop. Ronnie worked as a lobster and scallop fisherman. In his spare time he loved hunting, trout fishing, cutting wood, riding his motorcycle and just spending time outdoors. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 47 years, Shirley M. (LeBlanc) Whittaker, as well as two children, Rhonda (Jerry) Jacquard, Yarmouth and Dan (Tara) Whittaker, Morris Island and his two special granddaughters, MacKenzie and Madison. He is also survived by a sister, Donna Dugas, Arcadia. Aside from his father, Leonard Whittaker, his mother and step-father, Lillian and Lloyd Dunlop, Ronnie was predeceased by brothers, Stanley, David and Daniel Whittaker and by a sister, Brenda Mosher. Visitation took place from 6-8:30 Sunday evening at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 15 from Saint Joseph’s Church, Surette’s Island, Father Maurice LeBlanc officiated. It was requested that there be family flowers only. Donations in Ronnie’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
